Yeah/Nah - an update
Spokesperson McRae
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
We have had a wonderful response to our call for funds to meet our legal costs for the Judicial Review of the decision to refer Peninsula Capital’s application to the Fast Track panel.
Through Givealittle and bank donations we have raised over $50,000. This is fantastic!
We are thrilled with this outpouring of support which demonstrates the enormous love that exists for Devonport in this community. Huge support has also been coming from further afield – it’s clear that there is a wide appreciation for Devonport from many Aucklanders.
Now, we need to keep our fund raising going in order to hit our initial target of $70,000.
The Judicial Review filed in the Wellington High Court challenges Minister Chris Bishop’s decision to refer the Peninsula Capital proposal to Fast Track.
In our Statement of Claim our legal team argue that the minister failed to consider relevant information, acted unreasonably and irrationally when making the decision and the process used suffered from procedural impropriety.
We are expecting the case to be heard in the High Court in Wellington in March next year.
The Campaign
Thank you to the wonderful team who delivered our Yeah/Nah flyers to every house in Devonport and Bayswater to help raise awareness of our campaign.
This was a huge effort and really spread the word.
Meanwhile, we are planning more fundraising events which include:
A Performance Café concert at Harmony Hall on THURSDAY 12 November with the Friday Night Live musicians donating their time to the cause.
The sale of tickets for The ROTARY Homes of Devonport tour to be held on 13th November. We will receive some of the proceeds. Tickets of $85 each can be purchased by emailing us at devonport.heritage@gmail.com
We will soon be selling ‘4 Not 8’ campaign T shirts, hoodies and tote bags on our website.
You can also keep up with the campaign by following us on Instagram @devonportheritage
If you have a good idea to help with fundraising or would like to volunteer your time to support us, please let us know through devonport.heritage@gmail.com
AGM Thursday 22 October 7.30pm at Harmony Hall
Come along for an update on the legal proceedings and the fundraising campaign. We will have some compelling speakers and will announce two major events we have planned for next year.
Plan Change 120
The Independent Hearings Panel is now in full swing and has begun the huge process of deciding upon the controversial Plan Change 120.
There is very little intensification proposed for Devonport as it is not on a major transport route and is limited by wastewater and roading constraints.
This is what is so frustrating about Peninsula Capital’s Fast Track proposal - it goes against all the planning rules including a plan change that is still going through the system!
On the 9th December we will attend a mediation meeting with the Panel on retaining the Special Character Area over the whole of Devonport. This is a prelude to the formal hearings which will start next year.
Nga mihi,
Margot McRae
Chairperson, Devonport Heritage.
'FIND A HUNDIE'
We have 380 supporters. Many of you have already given very generously.
Let’s cast the net wider.
If every supporter can put the word out to 5 people - family, friends, neighbours - to contribute $20 each that would raise $38,000.
Some may give more, some less. No matter - we gratefully accept all donations.
You can donate through GiveaLittle -a Future-Worth-Building: 4 Not 8 website or directly to our bank account (see our Donations page)
